The Soroptimist mission is to improve the lives of women and children in local communities and throughout the world. In order to accomplish this goal, the organization administers the following programs:
Dream It, Be It
Career Support for Girls will help girls grow up to be strong, successful, happy adults. Dream It, Be It targets girls in secondary school who face obstacles to their future success. It provides girls with access to professional role models, career education and the resources to live their dreams.
Live Your Dream Award
The organization’s major project, this program assists women by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills and job prospects. Please click the link above to find the application materials.
Helping Hands Program
SI Elk Grove has partnered with Elk Grove Food Bank to provide emergency funding for senior (55+) women in our community. This financial support includes funds for hospital bills, utility bills, car repairs, car registration, etc. The Food Bank screens the applicants and forwards the requests to SI Elk Grove. Approved funds are mailed directly to the creditor.
Soaring to Success
Our focus is to help the girls at one of 3 Elk Grove Continuation High Schools who need that hand up and positive reinforcement and encouraging words. Every quarter a young girl is selected from each of the schools throughout the school year. Each young lady receives a $100.00 Target gift card and a beautiful certificate. We also give 4-$2000 Scholarships through the Elk Grove Regional Scholarship Foundation. Our Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/SoroptimistElkGrove
Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Campaign
Our club’s campaign for raising public awareness of the tragedy of Human Trafficking targeted numerous persons using two different forms of media for publicizing the problem. In November 2018 SI Elk Grove approached the Elk Grove Police Department about partnering to raise awareness of Human Trafficking in our community.
Teen Dating Violence Prevention Project
Teenagers are especially vulnerable to dating violence because they don’t always have a clear understanding of healthy vs. unhealthy relationships. To raise awareness among teenagers about teen dating violence, Soroptimist has created the Soroptimist Teen Dating Violence Bookmark and other resources.
Soroptimist Club Grants for Women and Children
Through this award-winning program, Soroptimist disburses cash grants for innovative Soroptimist club projects.
Soroptimist Disaster Grants
With these disaster grants, Soroptimist provides funds for programs that assist women and girls after a man-made or natural disaster.
SOROPTIMIST ELK GROVE COMMUNITY GRANTS
In addition to the gifts described on ‘Our Programs’ page, Soroptimist International of Elk Grove (SIEG) will have a limited sum each year to distribute to nonprofit or public benefit organizations for worthy projects, whether in the form of financial support or gifts.
