Dream It, Be It 2018

Our “2020 Dream It, Be It” Program
Wackford Teen Center, Elk Grove

Dream It, Be It, Program Update

Soroptimist International of Elk Grove concluded its fourth Dream It, Be It program at Wackford Teen Center on February 8th. Participants were provided with career support and guidance. The program empowers girls to pursue career goals and reach their full potential. In seven sessions during four full-day Saturday workshops, the participants learned about:

    • career opportunities
    • setting and achieving goals
    • overcoming obstacles to success, and
    • moving forward after setbacks.

The participants worked closely with Soroptimist members.

Soroptimists collaborated with other community members to lead girls through activities that helped them develop skills relevant to whatever career they choose to pursue.

Workshops

During the four full-day workshops, the girls enjoyed many guest speakers: Crystal Robinson, Sandy Li, Natachi Mez, Tam Karman, Shanesha Sorenson and SIEG Member Nidia Morataya.  The seven sessions were facilitated by Soroptimist members Tracey Edwards and Betty Matsui as well as community members Mindy Corr, Cat Reed, and Lynn Gavia. In addition, Sheldon High School students & “S” Club members Diamond & Anha Ho, and Elk Grove Chamber Founder & CEO Angi Perry contributed greatly.

Graduation

At the end of the fourth day, we held a graduation ceremony attended by the parents of the participants, City Councilmember Darren Suen, Elk Grove Unified School Board President Beth Albiani, as well as Soroptimist members. The girls were presented with Certificates of Completion by Dream It, Be It Program Chair, Sharon Renzo.

A reception followed the presentation. After that, members gave the girls a goody bag filled with items donated by Soroptimist of Elk Grove.

Soroptimist International of Elk Grove sincerely appreciates the opportunity to provide this program to Elk Grove Unified School District girls. We look forward to doing so again in 2021. Look for us in the CCSD Activity Guide. The Winter/Spring 2021 Activity Guide will be out in early December 2020!
